You can’t build your business hiding behind a computer.
And I learned that the hard way.
The first 9 months in my business, I was working out of my bedroom, sleeping till 1pm in the afternoon, and working until about 5am in the morning… and it was a living hell.
I had this idea that if I could just figure things out, I’d be able to turn my laptop into a virtual ATM… where it would print money on demand.

But I soon worked out that wasn’t gonna happen. After 9 months of zero results, I had to change my ways.
I still remember making the decision to attend my first event. It was in Sydney, Australia.
I live in Perth.
A good 5 hour plane flight away, and a few hundred dollars in hotel expenses…
So I had my reservations about going. I don’t like wasting money, and I wasn’t sure if going all the way to some event would be doing that.
But that event was a real eye opener.
It was for the direct sales company I was a part of… and I saw ordinary people making $20,000+ a month.
And even though I’d read about such things online… this made it very real.
And made me believe that I could do it too- after all, the people winning the awards and getting their trophies on stage were just regular people… they didn’t look or sound abnormally intelligent or anything like that- just regular ‘ol people.
Since that moment, I’ve made a real effort to get to as many events as possible.

The last event I went to, was actually in Las Vegas, way over in the states.
It was a HUGE decision to go.
The event itself was about $1000… bu the costs of flying over there, staying in motels (doing some gambling in Vegas) was closer to $5,000 – which is nothing to be sneezed at.
But… I thought to myself, “the best of the best will be there. And that’s what I aspire to, so I’m going.” And I went.
Possibly the biggest benefit you’ll get from going to events… are the connections that can be made.
You just never know who you’ll be seated next to.
On the last day of the event, a Sunday afternoon, there was a special lunch on for the people who got VIP tickets.
I’d paid an extra $600 for those tickets, so I wasn’t gonna miss it.
So I go into the room, and while everyone else is standing in a long queue waiting to get their food, I go and find a seat.
I see a guy sitting by himself, so I pull up a chair next to him.
He was an Australian too… from Queensland. But he was not living in Monaco.
About 15 minutes into the conversation, I find out he’s the creator of a service call ‘My Viral URL’ – you’ve probably heard of it.
It has around 70,000 active subscribers using it…

So while he’s talking, my mind starts thinking…
“hmmm… what if I could get this guy to promote a product for me- what if he could get it in front of 70,000 people…”
But then I think… “no, that’s the wrong way to approach this- I should lead with value. I’ve got to somehow help him and his business… so it’s win-win for both of us”
He starts telling me that one of the biggest problems with his business, which is when users unsubscribe from the service.
It turns out, that he had had no unsubscribes since the service began, the user base would be double what it was- 140,000 people!
So I ask more questons… turns out, many of his members don’t fully understand how to do email marketing the right way- so they’re sending out spammy and annoying emails to one another- causing other members to unsubscribe.
I ask him… “what if you’re members were to get some training on how to do email marketing the right way… so they weren’t annoying the other members, and causing them to leave the service.”
He told me that would help.
So then I say to him…
“Look… this is just an idea, just a thought I had… but what if I was to design a program- a product to teach people how to do email marketing the right way- would you be at all interested in looking at it… and if so, would you possibly be open to promoting it?”
I was of course fully expecting him to say no. At that time, I’d never been able to finish my own product… and I’d been trying to get one done for about 2 years.
But to my surprise, he actually said yes!
So that got me excited- that night, I went back up to the room I was staying in at the hotel, and started planning the product…
Now unfortunately, I’m often guilty of not taking action- finding excuses for not doing things, etc.
So this took a little bit longer than it should of.
Luckily… at the time I got back, Jonathan Budd was launching his new product, ‘Get Traffic 3.0′ and I decided last minute to promote it.
I had never created my own bonus before… but I though, “I’ll offer my email course, the one I have not yet created, as my bonus package!”
And I was very upfront with people that it was a course I’d be releasing in a month… so they fully understood what they were getting.
I did close to $7,600 in affiliate commissions that week- here’s the check:
No one was more surprised than me at that result.
It was pretty exciting…
But the best part about it, was now I had to get my new course done- because if I didn’t, I’d have over 50 customers angry at me for not delivering!
So I got to work, and a few months later, ‘My Email Marketing Empire’ was the result:
Now the course hasn’t yet made me a millionaire… but it is selling consistently. The great thing about being in the info-product business… is you do the work once, and you can continue to sell it for the rest of your life… or at least for years to come.
And the margins are nice too- there’s no inventory, since it’s a digital product.
Plus… it taught me the process to go through in order to get a product done.
And so after I created that product, I began work on my second- ‘How To Build A Funded Proposal’ which is now finished… and ready for release in a few days.
I’ve already got my 3rd product lined up- I’m partnering with an expert in SEO here in Perth, and we’re going to teach people how to get free leads from just ranking in the search engines…

Here’s the cool thing:
None of the above would have happened… had it not been for that one split second decision, where I was sitting at my computer, to click on the ‘buy now’ button on the sales page for that event being held in Las Vegas.
… it was a tough decision.
99 out of a 100 people would say “it’s too far to travel” or “maybe next time.”
And in the past, I’ve been one of those people.
But I’ve decided I want to be in the top 1%- so I choose to make it to the big events- no matter how far away they are from home.
It all starts with that decision to take action…
